Today I saw the first frog, or froglet, as these tiny ones are sometimes called, to emerge from the new pond.

Frogs of all sizes turn up all over the garden during the whole summer. But this one was so small that it can only have be the product of this year's spawn. I came across it in the tiny border which separates my pond from the slate chipping path which runs along one edge. There are still tadpoles of all sizes in the pond. I expect that many more will emerge soon.
